Betty Reid Soskin celebrated her 99th birthday on Tuesday! She is the oldest active National Park Service ranger. Did you know that tomorrow is National Public Lands Day? Could not imagine a better week to feature her as That Girl Friday! At 85-years-young, she became a ranger at the Rosie the Riveter WWII Home Front National Historical Park, which she helped establish. She brought unique experiences to the park's planning committee. She was the only person of color and one of the wartime workers the park was created to honor. During her popular park tour, she shares her personal memories of WWII and encourages visitors to contribute to the park's collection of oral histories. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Want to celebrate National Public Lands Day? Here are some suggestions from the National Park Service on how to #RecreateResponsibly:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1) Take part in a volunteer work project. On the NPS website, you can view the list of National Public Lands Day events or check out volunteer events at national parks.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
2) Enjoy being outdoors! Share your favorite activities with the hashtags #NPLD, #NPSVolunteer, and #FindYourPark!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
