Women's Rights are Human Rights
On this day in 1995, at the United Nations 4th World Conference on Women, Hillary Rodham Clinton delivered one of the most important speeches on human rights. The famous line "women's rights are human rights" is often quoted, but the entire speech is worth a read. This is one of my favorite parts, which is even more meaningful given ongoing protests in the United States:

"Let me be clear. Freedom means the right of people to assemble, organize, and debate openly. It means respecting the views of those who may disagree with the views of their governments. It means not taking citizens away from their loved ones and jailing them, mistreating them, or denying them their freedom or dignity because of the peaceful expression of their ideas and opinions."

When reflecting on this historic moment on Instagram today, Hillary Clinton said "Rights are important, but they are nothing without the power to claim them." I'm thankful for women who have been cracking glass ceilings for generations, so we can claim our rights. Let's keep fighting! You read the entirety of her speech via the United Nations here.
